BuildEx is an open fork of Orca, a serious agent workspace — worktrees, terminals, diffs, SSH, real sessions. All of that still works exactly as it does upstream. What we added is the layer that makes it a company rather than a checkout: a brain, a shelf of capabilities, the context the agent wakes up with, and a gate.

Linux and Windows builds+
macOS ships signed and notarized for both Apple Silicon and Intel today. Linux and Windows are next; the app already builds for them from source, so this is packaging and signing work rather than new ground.
Inline approval cards and an activity ledger+
The gate is real and enforced by the agent runtime today, but approving still happens where the agent asks. Bringing approvals and a full outward-action log into the console is the next surface.
Hosted sync+
Not coming, by decision. Your company repo is a git repo, so sync is git push — to your own remote, on your own account. Adding a sync service would mean putting your company's files on our machines, which is the whole thing we're avoiding.

Do you see our data or our AI credentials?+
No. The brain lives on your machine and syncs to a repo you control. Your agent authenticates itself with your own subscription - BuildEx never sets or reads your model keys. That's an architectural invariant, not a promise.
What exactly do we own at the end?+
A repository of plain markdown: every decision, client, loop and convention. Clone it and it runs anywhere. There is no proprietary format and nothing to rip out.
How is this safe if an AI is operating the company?+
The agent works wide open by default - across your files, the web, and your connected tools. Only the sharp edges - moving money, messaging real people, publishing, anything you can't undo - wait for your ok, and every outward move is logged. You can widen a gate you trust or tighten one you don't.
Which AI does it use?+
Claude Code today; the driver seam is open - other agents welcome as contributions. It requires a Claude Pro subscription or higher. We never resell you tokens.
Is this just for technical companies?+
No. The files are plain text, but you never see them - the console speaks in companies, clients and approvals, not repos and terminals. It's built for founders and operators, not developers. If you want the machinery anyway, How it works walks through all of it.
